It is highly likely that later today in Las Vegas, the Guinness World Record for "Most Casinos Visited in 24 Hours" will be set.
Everyone who knew Joel Strasser and Garrett Smith—famous for placing second in Season 35 of "The Amazing Race" and holding a combined 20 Guinness World Records—knew that they would succeed when they set out to visit and wager at at least 75 casinos in a single day.
"We are going to break the record — it’s just about by how much,” Strasser said Thursday several hours into the casino marathon.
Strasser and Smith were selected by Casino.org in an effort to establish a new record for the most casinos visited and wagers made in a single day.
On Thursday, September 25, at 3 p.m. local time in Southern Nevada, they set out on their historic voyage. To qualify as a casino visit, they must wager on a table game or an electronic table game, according to Guinness World Records. Slot machine games, sports wagers, and other forms of gambling do not.
Self-driving automobiles, ridesharing, taxis, and rental cars are all prohibited by Guinness regulations. The pair is sticking to their e-bikes, but scheduled public transportation like buses, trains, and monorails is permitted.
The chances of Strasser and Smith breaking the Guinness World Record for the most casinos visited in a 24-hour period are as slim as the sun rising tomorrow, with almost eight hours to go. They have traveled more than 129 miles on foot and/or electric bicycles in their first 15 hours. They had visited seventy casinos as of Friday at six in the morning.
For over a year and a half, Strasser and Smith prepared their record attempt. After arriving in Las Vegas last week, the Idahoans stated that they were still working on their map.
"This record is so logistically tough. It is incredibly difficult to follow all of Guinness’ rules and jump through every hoop,” said Strasser.
“I think that’s why the record has stood for almost 10 years,” he added.
"Normal people don’t do this,” Garrett said. “We’re not that normal.”
In retrospect, Casino.org's odds of Joel and Garrett breaking the record prior to their attempt were an alluring 7/1, meaning a $100 investment would have made $700.

As Smith and Strasser hurried throughout Southern Nevada on their approach to becoming part of history, Casino.org has followed them every step of the way. Pulling on their "Amazing Race" days, when staying up for a full day wasn't quite unusual, the two are still in a good mood.
Casino.org pays record holders for their accomplishments, while Guinness World Records does not. Strasser and Smith will get a cool $4,000 in cash when they leave their 75th casino later today, in addition to an all-expense-paid trip to Las Vegas that covers all of their wagers over the previous 24 hours.
The attempt must be verified by the GWR, which could take a few weeks.
